Grace Constance Walters Carne

Grace C. Carne, age 99, passed away peacefully at Carolina Assisted Living to the hands of her Lord and Savior on Friday, December 22, 2017. She was born January 16, 1918 in Chicago, IL to Hilton Collins and Lillie Sarah (Henschel) Walters. Grace married Harvey George Carne on June 8, 1940 and their marriage was blessed with two children. They celebrated their 60th anniversary at Crown of Life Lutheran Church in Ft. Myers, Fl. Harvey died on July 27, 2000. He was cremated and his ashes will be joined with Grace’s ashes in a sweetheart urn at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton.

Grace had a great love for her Lord, her family, and music. She devoted her life as a church musician and was very involved in the outreach programs at the churches in Nebraska, Pennsylvania, and Florida where they spent their retirement. She loved swimming and was nicknamed “Grandma Splash” to many visitors at the home in Florida. Grace would love to get dressed up, entertain, and dance anytime.

Grace is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Don) Krause, daughter-in-law, Claudia Carne, six grandchildren: Rev. John (Nancy) Roebke, Susan (Steve) Kirby, Tim (Chris-Ann) Roebke, Tim (Angie) Carne, Jennifer (Mark) Lillge and Molly Scharrer; 17 great-grandchildren. Grace was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey, son, Bill, and parents.

We will give thanks to God for her grace-filled life of almost 100 years by having a Christian Funeral at 12:00 pm on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Bethany Lutheran Church, 530 W Parkway Blvd, Appleton. Friends and family may gather at the church from 10:00 am until the time of service. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is being established for WELS Africa Missions.

Grace’s family would like to extend their sincere thanks to all who have assisted during these difficult days and especially to all the loving staff at Carolina Assisted Living and Southern Care Hospice.
