Zachary Sternhagen, age 41, passed away on Thursday, January 22, 2026. Zach was born on August 29, 1984, in Appleton, to Craig and Julie (Olski) Sternhagen.
Zach was a true free spirit who lived life to the fullest. He had the “fun gene” and was always going 100%, bringing energy, laughter, and excitement wherever he went. Zach loved sports, fantasy football, gambling, and playing video games with his “little dude,” Kingston. He enjoyed cheering on his nieces and nephews at their sporting events, going out to eat with his grandma and grandpa, and playing a crazy game of spoons while sharing laughs around the table. Zach loved talking sports with his dad and attending music events with his mom. Above all else, Zach loved his family. The time they spent together will always be deeply cherished and forever remembered.
Zach is survived by his parents, Craig and Julie Sternhagen; his sister, Nicole (Shane) Krause; their children, Eli, Marlie, and Carsyn; his maternal grandparents, Keith and Carol Olski; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, John and Dorothy Sternhagen, as well as two aunts and two uncles.
The family finds comfort in God’s Word, including “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18) and “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted” (Matthew 5:4).
A memorial service for Zach will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. at Valley Funeral Home, 2211 N. Richmond St., Appleton. A time of visitation will be held on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in Zach’s name.
