Yvonne E. Smith would say, “Why not?” After all, today, August 21, 2021, is a good day to join my loved ones in Heaven. Yvonne was 92 years old.
Yvonne was born in Appleton, Wisconsin on June 20, 1929, to the late Paul and Evelyn (St. Louis) Ganzen. Yvonne truly lived. She enjoyed her life to the fullest. Her interests and skills were in softball, bowling and the casino. She loved to tell jokes and make people feel welcome and encouraged everyone to laugh with her. She wanted only to be surrounded by happy people, not picklepusses (Yvonne’s description). Yvonne followed the Cubs and Bears professional sports teams.
On November 5, 1949, Yvonne married George Smith and celebrated 54 years of marriage before his passing in 2004. Yvonne also is predeceased by her beloved sister, Joan (Ganzen) Diedrich. Numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends predecease her.
Yvonne is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family would like to thank her neighbors Red, Brian and Cheryl for their care over the years. Yvonne also leaves behind a special cousin, Rochelle, and good friends Dorothy, Roxy, Chris and Cindy.
The family would like to thank her doctors, nurses, nursing home and hospice care team.
The funeral will be held on August 27, 2021, at Valley Funeral Home, 2211 N Richmond St., with 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. visitation followed by a service. Burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery, Appleton. Live streaming will be available on the Valley Funeral Home Facebook page.
Yvonne was a “Wow Wow” and will be terribly missed. Yvonne, please tell us a joke.
