William Robert (Bob) Hatfield, 77, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at his home.
He was born in Oak Ridge, TN, on September 7, 1945, to John and Mary Hatfield. He graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School in 1963. He married his high school sweetheart, Mary Catherine (Cathy) Phlegar on September 9, 1967, and they were happily married for 54 years. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Tennessee. He received a Masters of Business Administration Degree from Loyola University, in New Orleans while working full-time as a Process Engineer for Monsanto Corporation, in Luling, LA. In 1973, he was recruited by Engelhard Corporation in Houston and was promoted to Marketing Manager and transferred to Newark, NJ, in 1975. He was awarded three Patents. In 1989, Bob became employed by Custom Resins, Inc. as a Sales and Marketing Manager, in Henderson, KY. In 1994, Bob was employed as an International Marketing Manager for Curwood, Inc., a division of Bemis Company, in Oshkosh, WI.
Bob enjoyed hiking, sailing, tennis, running, and golf. He finished five marathons, including three New York Marathons. He also enjoyed learning to play the acoustic guitar and listening to Country and Bluegrass music.
He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, and reached the rank of Explorer. He attended the Boy Scout Jamboree in Colorado Springs. He was a member of Appleton Rotary Club West. He also was a member of Toastmasters for several years. He was a member of Memorial Presbyterian Church in Appleton.
Bob was proceeded in death by his parents, Mary and John Hatfield, his Grandparents, John and Emily Hatfield, and Edgar A. Vaughan, Sr. and Jesse, Uncle and Aunt, Dr. Edgar A. Vaughan, Jr. and Jackie, Uncle and Aunt, Marvin and Edith Hatfield, Uncle and Aunt, William and Ruby Reaves, Uncle Robert Rocha, Uncle Collier Hatfield, and Cousin Amy Rocha.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Cathy, Appleton, WI, his daughter, Natalle, Durham, NC, son, Jeff, Lafayette, IN, grandson, Finn Walter Hatfield Huckins, Durham, NC, brothers Allen (Jennifer), Hyde Park, NY, Jerry (Vicky), Johnson City, TN, Kenneth (Maureen), Milburn, NJ, Aunt Laura Rocha, Towaco, NJ, 4 nephews, 2 nieces, 2 great nephews, 1 great niece, and 10 cousins.
A Memorial Service will be planned for a later date and will be held at Memorial Presbyterian Church, in Appleton, WI.
