William J. Novotny

William John Novotny, age 79, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2026, after a wonderful life filled with love, family, friendship, laughter, and adventure.

William was born on December 20, 1946, in Saint Paul, Minnesota, to Alvyn and Mary (Wahoski) Novotny. He was the oldest of four children: Robert, Richard, and Jeanine. He spent his early years growing up in Langdon, North Dakota, until the eighth grade. After that, his family moved around, and William attended several high schools in the Grand Forks, North Dakota, area before graduating from Xavier High School in Appleton, Wisconsin.

After high school, William decided to serve his country and joined the National Guard. His commitment to serving others was an important part of who he was. He also joined the family business, Consolidated Construction, continuing his father’s legacy. He worked alongside his brothers and cousins and built a career that allowed him to provide for and care for his growing family.

In 1970, William met Bonnie Schlintz, the love of his life. They fell in love, married, and began their life together in Appleton, Wisconsin, where they moved into their first home. Together, William and Bonnie built a beautiful life filled with love, family, friendship, and countless memories.

William was first a beloved husband, and then his greatest adventure began when he became a father. He and Bonnie welcomed their daughter, Stephanie Lynn Novotny, followed later by their son, William Edward “Billy” Novotny.

William loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also loved traveling and making memories with his family and friends. Some of his happiest times were spent with his family at Disney, including visits to their home in Florida.

As his children grew, William’s title changed from father to father-in-law and, most importantly, Grandpa. His daughter, Stephanie, married Michael Timmers, and together they gave William three grandchildren: Mikayla, 19; Evan, 18; and Sami, 15. His son, Billy, married Mandy Beck, and they welcomed his grandson, Will, 19.

William was also a man of faith and found a church home at Valley Harvest Church. His faith was an important part of his life, and he treasured the fellowship, friendships, and time spent worshiping with his church family. His faith in God brought him comfort and strength throughout his life, and he leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and devotion to his family.

William had always been a sweet and loving man, but becoming a grandfather brought out another side of him—the silly, playful, and wonderfully goofy side that his family adored.

He loved showing off his famous Goofy impression, inspired by the beloved Disney character. His grandchildren brought out the kid in him, and his Goofy impression never failed to make his family smile. Those moments of laughter and silliness are among the memories his family will treasure most.

William was a devoted brother, husband, loving father, proud father-in-law, and cherished Grandpa. He loved his family deeply and found great joy in watching them grow. He created a lifetime of memories that will continue to bring comfort and smiles to those who knew and loved him.

Although our hearts are broken by his passing, we find comfort knowing that William is now resting peacefully in Heaven. We can picture him sharing his jokes with God, making Heaven a little more joyful, and looking down upon his family while continuing to share his love and blessings with all of us.

We will always love him. We will always remember him. And we will always carry his laughter, his love, and his wonderful spirit in our hearts.

Rest peacefully, William. Until we meet again.

The memorial service for William will be held on Monday, September 7, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. at Valley Funeral Home, 2211 N. Richmond St., Appleton.  A time of visitation will be held on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established in his name.  For online condolences please visit www.valleyfh.com.
