Wendy L. Wahlers

Wendy Lynn Wahlers, age 76, of the Town of Greenville, passed away on July 22, 2026, at Brewster Village in Appleton, Wisconsin. She was born on October 29, 1949, in Berlin, Wisconsin, the daughter of Marvin and Norma Brooks. On November 7, 1987, she married the love of her life, David Wahlers, in Berlin.

Wendy worked at AAL/Thrivent Financial for Lutherans for 24 years before retiring at the age of 60. She was incredibly proud of her time there and treasured the lifelong friendships she made throughout her career.

Wendy and David built a life centered around family, friendship, and making memories. They enjoyed traveling with family and friends to Mexico every year, taking their children and grandchildren to Florida, camping, attending summer music festivals, and spending Sundays with friends cheering on the Green Bay Packers. Wendy had a true passion for traveling and loved exploring new places with her daughter and granddaughters. One of the greatest highlights of her life was fulfilling her dream of traveling to Paris and seeing the Eiffel Tower.

Wendy cherished the time she spent with her nieces, whether it was a girls' weekend getaway or hours spent scrapbooking together. She loved hosting parties, decorating her home for every holiday, and making Black Friday shopping an annual tradition with her daughter and granddaughters. Wendy was truly the life of the party and had a special way of bringing people together. She was someone people loved being around because of her warmth, kindness, and genuine love for others. She made everyone who walked through her door feel welcome, loved, and like family. Whether she was hosting a celebration, spending time with friends and family, or simply enjoying the company of those around her, Wendy had a way of making every moment feel special. Her faithful companion, Ottis, was never far from her side. She loved her beloved dog dearly, and he brought her comfort, companionship, and endless happiness over the years.

Above all else, Wendy’s greatest joy was being a mother and a Nana. She and David rarely missed a sporting event, school concert, graduation, or special milestone for their children and grandchildren. No matter where they were, if someone she loved was participating, they were there in the stands cheering them on. She celebrated every accomplishment, offered encouragement through every challenge, and made each of her children and grandchildren feel like they were the center of her world.

Being a Nana wasn’t just a title; it was who Wendy was. She loved creating traditions that her family will carry with them forever. From holiday celebrations filled with beautiful decorations to her beloved tea parties with her granddaughters, she created moments that made everyone feel special. Her home was always a place of laughter, comfort, and unconditional love. She taught her family the importance of spending time together, celebrating life’s little moments, and always showing kindness to others. Her legacy will live on through the traditions she started, the memories she created, and the love she poured into every member of her family.

Wendy was a faithful member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church since moving to Greenville in 1980, where her faith remained an important part of her life.

She is survived by her loving husband, David Wahlers; children: Tim (Pam) Van Ornum, Tyler Van Ornum, and Trisha (Laine) Handrich; grandchildren: Emma Van Ornum, Ava Van Ornum, Josh Van Ornum, Abby Van Ornum, Louis Van Ornum, Edward Van Ornum, Blaze (Taylor) Handrich, and Brielle (Jarrett) Wunderlich; great-grandchildren: Ayden and Aubrey Handrich; sisters: Sharon Groff and Bonnie (Carlton) Nehring; brother, Bill (Debby) Brooks; and sister-in-law, Linda Brooks.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Norma Brooks, and her brother, Dennis Brooks.

Wendy’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Brewster Village for the kindness, care, and dignity they showed her throughout her time there.

A Celebration of Wendy’s Life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, N1615 Meadowview Drive, Greenville, Wisconsin. Visitation will take place on Saturday morning at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.  Family and friends are invited to Union Cemetery in Hortonville, where Wendy’s urn will be laid to rest.

Wendy leaves behind a lifetime of love, memories, and traditions that will continue through the family she cherished so deeply. Her love will live on in every holiday celebration, every family gathering, every tea party, and every moment her family comes together.
