Obituary

Wallace K. Hedtke, age 89, of Appleton, WI, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at his home.

Wally was born on January 23, 1934 and raised in New London, son of the late Daniel and Edith (Dain) Hedtke. On February 14, 1953, Wally married Evelyn Jamison in Hortonville at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. They enjoyed 55 years of marriage.

Wally was a superintendent for Boldt Construction in Appleton until his retirement in 1996. He was a member of the Carpenters Local Union 955 and a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Appleton. Wally enjoyed pull tabs, scratch off tickets, and the “40” watching birds, eagles, deer and turkeys. He had many passions like fishing especially Walleye, White Bass, Trout and Sturgeons; hunting especially deer, turkey, moose, bear, small game, ducks and geese. In his younger years, Wally rode his Harley up the side of Mosquito Hill and won that challenge. Wally was most proud spending time with his grandchildren whom he taught them the phrase “Pull My Finger” and always shared his candy with them.

Wallace is survived by three daughters, Vicki Syring, Mary Jahnel and Colleen (Vaughn) Kosmosky;  daughter-in-law Lori Hedtke; eight grandchildren Jeremy (Alycia) Syring and their children Jacquelyn, Jenna and Gary, Jennifer Syring, Jason (Jessica) Syring and their children Hannah and Hayleigh, Derek (Stacey Allen) Hedtke,  Aaron (Alexis) Hedtke, Justin (fiancé Jackie Tessen) Jahnel and their children Owen and Weston, Jesse (Maria) Jahnel and their children Jameson, Paisley, Sophia and Logan and Zachary Kosmosky; a brother Gaylord Hedtke; sisters-in-law Mildred Hedtke and Delores Hedtke.

Besides his parents and wife Evelyn, he was preceded in death by a son Richard Hedtke; son-in-law Gary Syring; four brothers Arnold (Ruby) Hedtke, Leslie Hedtke, Henry Hedtke and Daniel (Dee) Hedtke; brother and sister-in-laws Dorothy Hedtke, Mary (James) Tessen, Margaret (Kenneth) Suprise, Francis (Doris) Jamison, Anna (Larry) Suprise and Ruth (Vern) Voster.

Wally’s family would like to send a special Thank You to: David and Jayne Dain, Cindy and Dave Maus, Deb and Tim Bruette, Danny Hedtke, Shirley Buch, Tom Schlender, Jack Huff and many other friends and family. He loved your phone calls and visits.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at St. Pius X Catholic Church 500 W. Marquette Street, Appleton, WI with Father James Jugenheimer presiding. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. all at the church.

Burial will be at Highland Memorial Park in Appleton, WI.
