Thomas James Fountain

Thomas James Fountain, 83, of Appleton, passed away Thursday October 4, 2018 at his residence. He was born in Appleton on May 8, 1935, son of the late Eugene and Madeline (Neuman) Fountain.  Thomas married Beverly Eaton on September 21, 1957. They were able to celebrate 61 years together.

Thomas graduated in 1953 from Appleton West High School. He then attended Chicago Technical College. Thomas served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He owned and operated J. Fountain Lumber Company for 25 years, retiring in 1985. Thomas was a charter member at St. Bernard Catholic Church. He was on the Appleton Board of Appeals for 16 years. Thomas volunteered his time and talent at St. Joseph Food Pantry, and Make the Ride Happen formerly known as F.I.S.H. Thomas enjoyed golfing, gardening and playing bridge. He and Beverly enjoyed spending winters in Destin, Fl. and North Padre Island, TX. Thomas’s greatest enjoyment came from time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Thomas is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Beverly; their three children, daughter Susan (Gary) Kusnierz, Hortonville; two sons: Tim (Marti), Plano, TX., and Steven (Therese), Sugarland, TX; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was further preceded in death by his brother Gerald; and his sister and brother in-law: Jeanne and Gordon Kotkosky.

Mass of Christian burial for Thomas will be 11:00 AM on Friday October 12, 2018 at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1617 W. Pine St., Appleton, with Fr. Amal Roche officiating. Visitation will be held at the church Friday morning beginning at 9:00 until 10:45 AM, with Mass to follow at 11:00 AM. Full military honors will follow at the church. Inurnment will be at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
