Ted Goodwin Obituary

Ted Ernest Goodwin, age 67, of Appleton, WI and Port Orange, FL, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, October 1, 2024. He was born on January 21, 1957, in Detroit, MI, to the late Ted and Shirley Goodwin. On April 28, 1979, he was married to Marilynn (King) Goodwin.

Ted graduated with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from University of Detroit in 1979 and later received a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. Ted’s career began in research and development at Appvion, Inc. (Appleton Papers) in 1979. Throughout 38 years with the company, he advanced to director of research, executive director of new business, and retired as Vice President of thermal research and development in 2017. He took great pride in the development and launch of the Encapsys business, which ultimately lead him to consulting in his retirement years.

Ted was a natural-born leader who positively impacted others during his professional career. Outside of work, Ted loved giving back to the community. He served on multiple boards of directors, including the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Fox Valley and Oshkosh College of Business. He also lead and mentored those in his church community, where he served as an Elder for 27 years. He was a lifelong student of the Bible, which fueled his gift of teaching. His wisdom was imparted through classes, sermons, and relationships in both Wisconsin and Florida.

Ted found joy in spending quality time with family gathered around the table. His love of fishing and golfing, which had been passed down from his “Grampa” and his dad, was lovingly shared with his children and grandchildren. He loved reading, watching sports (especially the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Red Wings), and traveling to visit family. In his younger years, he was an active participant in church bowling and softball leagues.

Along with Marilynn, his wife of 45 years, he is survived by three loving children, Tabitha (Justin) Mooney, Emily (Adam) Meulemans, and Mason (Liz) Goodwin; 7 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Debbie (Rick) Oswald and Leanne (Craig) Rhoades; as well as several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Shirley Goodwin.

A celebration of Ted's life will be held on Friday, October 25, 2024 at 4 p.m. at Mason Street Church of Christ, 2600 N. Mason Street, Appleton, WI. Family and friends will be welcomed at 3 p.m. until the time of service. There will be a meal to follow with additional time for visitation. His immediate family held a private burial on Friday, October 4, 2024.

The family would like to thank the nurses and care team at ThedaCare Appleton (AMC), especially Dr. Stephen Taylor and nurse Peter in ICU, for all the care and compassion given to Ted and his family.
