Sylvia M Wahl, age 87, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 14, 2025. She was born in the Township of Oasis to the late Arnold and Edna (Damrau) Helmrick.
A longtime member of Faith Lutheran Church in Appleton, she loved lifting her voice in song with the church choir. Her hands were never idle. She crocheted and sewed but she was her happiest caring for others. As a devoted babysitter to her grandchildren, she gave her heart without hesitation. Her generosity was steady and instinctive – if you needed help, a meal, a hug or simply a listening ear. Sylvia loved cooking for family and friends, camping under the stars, and getting into the soil of her flower and vegetable gardens.
Sylvia is survived by her children: Sandy (Dan) Zitzelsberger, Don (Julie Duwe) Scorgie, Dave (Marzena) Scorgie, Karen (Richard) Jacobson, Loren (Karen) Wahl; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; and siblings: Judy Swenson, Doug (Cindy) Helmrick. She was further preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Wahl; brother, Robert (Lynda) Helmrick, brother-in-law, Richard Swenson, and father and mother-in-law, Arnold and Amber Wahl.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at Valley Funeral Home, 2211 N Richmond Street, Appleton. Visitation will take place at the funeral home from 9:00 am until the time of service. Burial will take place at St. John’s Cemetery in Almond, WI.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks a donation be made in Sylvia’s honor to the Fox Valley Area Humane Society.
