Steven R. Helms passed away Monday April 19, 2021after a battle with cancer. Steve was born on July 19, 1946 to Robert and Anne (Raymaker) Helms. He grew up in Appleton and attended West High School. After high school Steve joined the Army and served in the 82nd Airborne Division. After his honorable discharge, he went on to serve in the National Guard, 32nd Infantry Brigade. Steve was an extremely proud veteran and thoroughly enjoyed his time serving in the military. He stayed involved with the 82nd by serving as the chairman of the Badger State Chapter of the 82nd for several years as well as attending as many conventions for the 82nd as possible.
Steve had various jobs in his life time including his service as a police officer in Kimberly, WI, owner of the 12th Precinct Saloon in Gillette, WI and working at Voith Paper in Appleton, WI. Steve also spent several years living in Englewood, FL and truly enjoyed his time there.
Steve leaves behind his children Eric (Marcy) Helms, of Menasha, Marne Helms of Kimberly, Matthew Helms of Neenah, Chelse Helms of Appleton, a sister Val Burke of Englewood, Florida and grandchildren, a niece and nephew. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, sister Connie, and son Michael.
A service will be held at Highland Memorial Park in Appleton on Tuesday, April, 27th at 11:00 a.m. Visitiation starting at 10:00 a.m.
