Sigrid Chase Obituary

Mom left my loving arms this morning and was welcomed into Heaven by her beloved Grandparents in their beautiful garden in Germany, where she loved to spend her summers.  Mom was Sigrid Chase, born June 6th, 1936 in Bad Nauheim, West Germany.  Her parents were Wilhelm and Anna Schaefer.  She told us so many stories of her childhood in Germany, growing up during WWII and as a child how she and her friends survived it all but handled it as children would.  During my travels back with her, she would show me where they played and all the homes of her friends.  She was a wonderful ice skater, showing me the rink where she skated with her friends.  After completing school, she apprenticed in Frankfurt in fashion design, hence her love of sewing for us and for others.

Meeting our Father when he was there in the Army, she began her new life in the United States in 1958.  She worked in Oshkosh for George "Bud" Koeneman and his fashion business, loving that environment.  Her love of sewing never ended, she designed clothes for many residents of Weyauwega, where they moved after Oshkosh.   She worked at Lakeview Manor in Weyauwega for years, so in love with all the residents.  She also worked at Walmart in New London making lifelong friends.  Upon retirement, she volunteered at St. Joseph's in New London, she adored going there.  An arm injury ended her world of volunteering there.  At that time she moved in with her daughter Becky and they shared a home together.

Mom loved to travel, she visited all 50 states with her daughter and had a wonderful time cruising.  Colorado Springs was one of her favorite places to be.  She was so happy to crochet baby blankets for one of our area hospitals.  She loved to cook.  And she was so in love with flowers, so proud of our impatiens here at the house, which she helped plant.

Sigrid is survived by her daughter Becky Chase, Appleton, and daughter Cathy Hess, Wausau.  She is also survived by grandsons Travis Hess and Ben Hess and their families, and grand-daughter Tasha Bair and her family.  She has a niece Siggi Froehnel and two nephews Joachim Strom and Frank Strom and their families in Germany.  She had three wonderful friends she shared so much with, Connie Westphal, Marlies Mueller, and Jeannie Green.  And last but so important to her, her cat Joey, who Mom was able to see upon her arrival back at our home for hospice care.  She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Ute Strom.

Per Mom's request, there will be cremation and no memorial service.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Waupaca Humane Society or Oshkosh Area Humane Society.

Much thanks to TC-Berlin for their wonderful care and Compassus hospice.

Mom-You were so loved and how lucky was I to be here with you when you passed so peacefully.  I already told you, but thank you for everything and you know our plans, you will continue your travels with me.  Love, Becky.
