Russell J. Burton, age 88 of Appleton, passed away on Thursday, January 13, 2022, surrounded by his family. He was born on June 13, 1933 to the late John and Margaret (Bronold) Burton in New London. Russ was drafted into the Army, 82nd Airborne Division and trained as a Paratrooper. On May 30, 1956, he married Vaugn Dempsey at St. Mary Catholic Church in Bear Creek. They just recently celebrated 65 years of marriage. Russ worked at the Appleton Post Office until his retirement. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, spending time at the family cottage, wintering in Florida, bowling, tinkering in his workshop, and most of all, spending time with his grandkids.
Survivors include his wife, Vaugn, children; Shawn (Becky) Burton, Cindy (Harry) Alexander, Scott (Sheila Lazar) Burton, Lisa Burton Bradford, Jeff (Susan) Burton and Dean (Jean) Burton, grandchildren; Joshua and Jacob Burton, Chris Mark, Selena Alexander, Tyler (Melanie), Ryan and Matthew Burton, Lizzie and Connor Burton and one great grandchild, Charlotte Mae. He is further survived by his brothers and sisters; Harold (Bonnie) Burton, Ruth Shepherd, Rita Young, KathyJean Happersett and Roy (Marlene) Burton; sisters-in-law Pat Burton and Sharon Dishmaker, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and close friends.
Preceding him in death are his parents, and his brothers, Norman and Neil Burton.
Family and friends may gather on Thursday, January 20, 2022 at St. Therese Catholic Church, 213 E Wisconsin Ave, beginning at 9:00am until the Memorial Mass being held at church at 11:00am with Rev. Bill Hoffman officiating. Inurnment will take place at Highland Memorial Park in Appleton.
