Ruby M. Koehler, 76, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 after a prolonged illness. She was born on April 23, 1949 to Adolph and Marian (Heimerman) Zitzelsberger.
Ruby was a spunky, passionate woman that cared deeply for her family and friends. She was always there to help when one of them were in need and sacrificed her time and talents wherever she could. Ruby delighted in her grandchildren and great-granddaughter and would brighten anytime one was in the room or mentioned in conversation.
An avid crocheter and sewer, Ruby must have crocheted thousands of kitchen towels and sewed almost as many potholders and blankets for family and friends alike. She also created beautiful silk floral arrangements, including flowers for many weddings. She loved cooking, cleaning, gardening, and canning fruits and vegetables, especially when she could do those things for her loved ones. She was known to take frequent day trips around Wisconsin, searching for special treats or a ripe berry bush to pick from. Vacations were also important to her and she had many adventures with her best friend and family exploring warm, often tropical destinations.
Ruby is survived by her children: Jodi (Chris) Lavarda, Kris (Sony) Koehler and Amanda (Adam) Schroth; grandchildren: Lucas Nadler, Isaac (Cassie) Nadler, Lexi Schroth and Parker Schroth; a great granddaughter, Lily Nadler; siblings: Judy (Lyle) Oakley, Ivan Zitzelsberger, Tod (Cathy) Zitzelsberger; a life-long best friend Colleen Malchow; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents and ex-husband Kurtis Koehler.
The family would like to thank the staff at Ballard Glenn Assisted Living and St. Croix Hospice for their diligent, compassionate care for Ruby.
