Rose Mary Ryan

Rose Mary Ann Ryan, 96 1/2, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on July 16, 2026. She was born in Superior, Wisconsin on January 12, 1930, to her late parents Michael and Mary (Rezewicz) Machones.

She was raised in Superior with her 11 siblings. She married the love of her life John Patrick Ryan in September of 1958. Together they raised 3 children.

Rose Mary dedicated more than 40 years of her life to nursing as a Registered Nurse, serving patients in several communities, including West Bend, Wisconsin, before retiring in Missouri. Nursing was far more than a profession to her—it was her calling. She possessed a strong work ethic, and a genuine desire to care for others.

Following her husband’s passing, Rose Mary moved to Wisconsin in 2016 to be closer to her son and daughter-in-law. Even in retirement, her nursing instincts never faded. After moving to Lotus Gardens, she could often be found asking to review the charts or playfully “firing” the staff, only to be laughing and playing Bingo with them and her fellow residents moments later. Her caregivers quickly learned that her sharp wit and lifelong nurse’s spirit were simply part of what made Rose Mary so unforgettable. She remained a nurse at heart until the very end.

When she wasn’t keeping everyone on their toes, Rose Mary enjoyed life’s simple pleasures. She loved watching baseball, golf, game shows, and The Young and the Restless. She found joy in working on puzzles, playing card games—including Texas Hold’em, Kings in the Corner, and Skip-Bo—and never passed up an opportunity to indulge in chocolate.

In the closing chapter of her life, Rose Mary found her greatest happiness in the time she spent surrounded by those she loved most. She treasured the memories made with her nearby family, especially her beloved great-grandchildren, whose laughter and love brought her immeasurable joy.

She is survived by her children: John Michael (Lisa) Ryan, Elizabeth (Ray) McDermott, Mary Pat (Matt) Tabor; grandchildren: Mitchell (Jessica) Ryan, Casey Ryan, Margaret Tabor, Madelyn Tabor, Kaitlin McDermott, Meghan McDermott, Josh McDermott; and 2 great grandchildren: Brody and Bella Ryan; along with nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

Rose Mary is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 11 siblings.

Per her wishes, there will be no services.

The family would like to extend a huge thank you to Preceptor Hospice, especially Shaelynn and Emily, and the staff at Lotus Gardens where great friendships were made with Jaime, Kayla, and Amanda. With all the tender loving care she received, know that the Ryan family is extremely appreciative.
