Roger Wood Obituary

Roger W. Wood, 74, of Hilbert, passed on to eternal life on December 18, 2021, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton. Roger will be deeply missed, but we take comfort in knowing that he is rejoicing in Heaven with Jesus, his Savior and Lord, and is now reunited with his wife Stella and other loved ones who have gone on to Heaven before him.

Roger was born on April 11, 1947 in the Antigo hospital to the late Daniel and Irene (Kosbab) Wood. He was one of nine children and they grew up on a dairy farm in Birnamwood. He married his first wife Barbara and they had a son together, Jason Wood. Roger married Stella (Griesbach) Baurain on August 11, 1984 and gained six stepchildren: Rick (Gina Sabatino) Baurain (Neenah), Tammy (John) Thompson (Hilbert), Lisa Baurain (Neenah), Jacqueline Shattuck (Appleton), Scott (Wendy) Baurain (Oshkosh), and Penny (Clifford) Larrabee (Spooner). Roger was preceded in death by his step daughter-in-law Laurie Baurain, his step son-in-law William (Bill) Shattuck, his step grandson Ryan Baurain, and his wife Stella Wood.

Roger proudly served his country in the army and was a Vietnam veteran. He was a hard worker, including on the farm and for the companies he worked for installing and connecting transformer power lines and cable lines, and he was even promoted to foreman. Roger enjoyed hunting, camping, the outdoors in general, riding his lawnmower, and watching football (especially the Green Bay Packers), nature shows, Fox News, and various Christian programs. Roger was good at fixing small engines and also did some mechanical work on vehicles. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to his family and to anyone in need. Roger was usually not a man of many words, but he could be very passionate when talking about topics important to him like spiritual matters, news, and politics. Being around his step grandchildren and great grandchildren also brought much joy to his life.

Roger’s living siblings are Lois Owen (Cecil), Iris (Joseph) Steinke (Hatley), Daniel Wood (Birnamwood), and sister-in-law Agatha (Aggie) Wood (Oshkosh). Roger was preceded in death by five siblings: Caroline (Walter) Garbisch, Julius Wood, Stanley Wood, James Wood, Orville (Pete) Wood, and sister-in-law Delores Wood and brother-in-law Wayne Owen.

There will be a private family celebration of Roger’s life at his home on Saturday, January 8, 2022.
