Robert Alan Stevens, beloved husband and father, passed away peacefully in his home with his loving family by his side on Wednesday, October 30, at the age of 79. He was born in Chicago, IL, on November 28, 1944, to Alvina H. Haugen and Nels G. Nelson. A 1962 graduate of Iron Mountain High School, he then attended University of Michigan, joined the NROTC, and served on the USS Essex. Bob eventually settled in Appleton to raise his family with the love of his life, Dar. He worked as a research and development engineer at Kimberly-Clark for approximately 35 years, where many of his ideas and processes became patented. He always gave credit to his team and colleagues for the success they shared.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Dar; son Jeffery (fiancée Pamela, grandsons Brandon and Charlie); daughter Sheila (granddaughters Amanda and Mariah, great-granddaughters Simone and Indie); daughter Michelle (husband Bill, grandchildren Isabelle, Will, and Olivia, great-grandson Bentley); son Jerry (wife Tara and granddaughter Emily); daughter Susan (husband Will, grandchildren Lauren, McKayla, Briella, Evelyn, Gary, Ellen, and Nora); son James (grandsons Andrew and Silas); son Robert Jr. (wife Ashley, grandchildren Taylor, Luke, and Elyse); brother Michael A. Stevens; and sister Pamela J. Carey. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Jonathan.
Bob was a humble, gentle, loving, kind, and God-fearing man that loved his wife and family with all his heart, mind, and soul. His funny, silly, and dry sense of humor always brought his family strength and comfort. His faith, passion, and obedience to God allowed him to serve as a pastor for 25 years at the House of Prayer Ministries. He was also dedicated to the restoration of his Victorian home. One of his favorite scriptures is Joshua 1:3, "I will bless you every place where you set your foot."
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 7, at Valley Funeral Home, 2211 N. Richmond Street in Appleton. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by services at 3:00 p.m. and a luncheon afterwards. As a celebration of Bob’s life, bright colors are welcome.
