Peter Akmentins Obituary

Appleton, WI - Peter Akmentins, 82, of Appleton, WI went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 14th, 2021 after battling Type 1 diabetes for close to 60 years. Peter was born on March 24th 1938, in Latvia and lived there until 1944 when he and his family were forced to flee their homeland as the Soviet Army overran and occupied Latvia. Peter and his family were settled in a displaced persons camp in Bavaria, Germany. In 1950, Peter and his father, mother, and sister, Astrida, emigrated to the United States and eventually became proud citizens of the United States in 1956.

Peter attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison with an emphasis in civil and mechanical engineering; he spent his working career with companies focused primarily in the paper industry.

Peter married the love of his life, Audrey (Gill), on December 5th, 1964. In his late twenties, Peter committed his life to Christ. His devotion to his family, friends and faith was known by all. He will be remembered for his wonderful smile, twinkle in his eye, quick tears, gentle spirit, friendship, and his love for his family.

Peter enjoyed fly fishing in streams near Iola, WI, Badger football, downhill skiing, walking, participating in and leading Bible studies, coffee with friends at McDonald’s, golfing, music, and mowing the lawn.

Peter is survived by his wife Audrey, son William (Sarah) Akmentins, daughter Elizabeth (Rob) Sax, and daughter Kristin (Steven) Stout. Peter is also survived by eight grandchildren whom he loved dearly and were the joy of his life – Julia Akmentins, Rafael Akmentins, Charlotte Sax, Caroline Sax, Isabella Stout, Emma Stout, Gabriella Stout, and Jack Stout.
