Pauline "Polly" H. Mauthe, age 74, passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2026 at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee. She was born on October 6, 1951 in Appleton to the late Lawrence and Phyllis (VanVreede) Mauthe.
Polly was known for her big personality and big heart. She could take teasing as well as hand it out. When she was not working, she had an eclectic wardrobe that she wore proudly. It was as much for shock effect as it was for laughter. She didn't worry what other people thought.
Polly was employed for several years at Wisconsin Electric (WE Energies) and Secura Insurance as an executive assistant.
After retirement she volunteered for Building Together Fox Valley and received the John G. Vandenberg Community Service Award in 2016 for her commitment, support and expertise.
She loved blues and soul music, camping with family, going out for breakfast or lunch with various nieces and nephews and having her niece Carrie for overnights and shopping. Mike, Stephanie and Chase were her life.
Polly is survived by her son, Mike Mauthe (Stephanie "Tutie"); grandson, Chase; twin sister, Paula (Ken) Skitch; brother, David (Tracy) Mauthe; and brother-in-law Harvey Schaefer. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Michelle; sister, Jane Schaefer; sister and brother-in-law, Diane and Steve Schmit; and brother, Mark Mauthe.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at Valley Funeral Home, 2211 N Richmond Street, Appleton from 9:00am to 11:00am followed by a brief tribute and prayer at 11:00 am. A celebration of life will be held at 12:00pm at the 10th Frame at 618 W. Wisconsin Ave, Appleton.
