With a strong belief in Jesus as her Savior, Nola Elaine Wurster, 84, passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2026 at Dimensions Living in Appleton. She suffered from Dementia. Nola, along with a twin brother, was born into the farm family of Kenneth and Nellie Lloyd in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, December 2, 1941. A sister waited for them at home.
At the age of six the family moved to a farm in rural New London. Nola attended Immanuel Lutheran School for her first eight grades. She then graduated from New London High School where she achieved high academic honors.
In the fall of 1959, she enrolled at Spencerian College in Milwaukee to become a medical assistant. As part of her education, she worked part time at Milwaukee Children's Hospital. It was at Spencerian that she met her husband to be, Cy Wurster. They married September 10, 1960. Cy's job with Standard Oil took them to live in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. It was there that their first child was born.
In 1963, having a fondness for the Fox Cities area, Cy took a job with Aid Association for Lutherans (now Thrivent) that brought them to Appleton. There, two more sons were born. Nola was a stay-at-home mom until they were grown. She then did administrative work part-time at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and Liberty Hall.
Nola was all about family. Her love for them was always on display. As an exceptionally good cook her favorite time was when she could prepare one of her gourmet meals and see everyone seated around the big dining room table enjoying it. Music was a big joy in her life as evidenced by her clapping and tapping to every beat, especially if the song was by Elvis. She was also an excellent bridge player. She belonged to a number of groups and was always willing to fill in when someone needed a sub.
Nola is survived by her three sons: Barry (Maureen), Brian (Cris), Jeffrey (Trina); sister, Pat Thompson; four grandchildren: Megan (Taylor) Smith, Michael (Rebecca Mangino) Wurster, Karissa (Branden) Breckheimer, Kyle Wurster; and three great grandchildren: Scottie, Charlie, and Haven. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cy Wurster; a twin brother; a nephew, and her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, October 16, 2026 at Faith Lutheran Church, 601 E Glendale Avenue, Appleton. Visitation will take place at the church on Friday from 9:00 am until the time of service. Nola will be laid to rest at Lakeview Memorial Park in Oshkosh. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established for Celebration Lutheran School in Appleton.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff in the Memory Care unit of Dimensions, and St. Croix Hospice, for the loving care they gave Nola.
