Nancy Catherine Van Stappen, age 82, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at Willow Lane Assisted Living. She was born in Schaijk in the Netherlands on March 18, 1942, daughter of the late Martin and Elizabeth (DeKlein) Vander Heyden. Nancy married the love of her life, William Van Stappen, on September 27, 1958 and were married for 60 years.
Nancy enjoyed working at Fox Valley Technical College for 20 years, retiring in 1998. She was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church – Appleton and St. Timothys Church - Florida. Nancy and Bill were snowbirds and enjoyed spending the winter months in Florida for 20 years. She loved line dancing, swimming, and the sunshine. They loved to travel, go on cruises, and take trips to the casino. Nancy’s greatest joy in life was her family, being a mother, grandma, and great grandma.
Nancy is survived by her children: Betsy (Scott) Rusch, Menasha, Bill Van Stappen, Mackville, and Teri (Pete) Verbeten, Mackville; seven grandchildren: Adam (Sara) Clark, Jeremie (Emily) Clark, Matthew (Nicole) Clark, Amber (Gary) Herzfeldt, Peter (Quiana) Verbeten, David Van Stappen and Lacey (Curtis) Hanson; 15 great grandchildren: Gavin, Ashton, Kayla, Brady, Kennedy, Owen, Devon, Giuliana, Miles, Trip, Sophie, Axel, Tahlia, Jocelynn, and Vera; brothers: Herman and Pam, Pete and Mary Lou, John and Fay, Tony, and Joe; and her sister, Willie and Rick. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, William; and her sisters: Catherine and Elizabeth.
A Funeral Mass for Nancy will be held on Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 1810 N. McDonald Street, Appleton. Visitation will begin at the church at 9:00 a.m. and will continue until the time of the Mass. She will be laid to rest in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Nancy’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the Willow Lane staff as well as Moments Hospice. Your kindness, compassion, and respect towards Mom was truly appreciated. You are all angels. Mom always loved seeing your smiling faces, singing, and dancing.
To our mother in heaven, thank you for always loving us and guiding us. Even though you are no longer here with us I can still feel your love guiding us. You are always in our hearts. We love you and miss you dearly!
