She was born in Chicago on March 31, 1927 to Edgar Thomas and Elizabeth Knecht Wilkes. She graduated with an AA from William Woods College in Fulton, Missouri and with a BA from Beloit College.
She is survived by her husband George Darwin Dorst, whom she married on December 3, 1949. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Thomas and John Wilkes and daughter-in-law Holly Dorst. Nancy was a devoted wife and mother, and in her later years she delighted in hearing about her grandchildren and her recently arrived great granddaughters. She exercised her sharp mind as an avid bridge player and enjoyed having her family around for holidays. All of her children and grandchildren cherish happy memories of her on summer vacations at the cottage on Pickerel Lake. Nancy leaves enduring influences on those who knew and loved her, as well as the family corn pudding recipe.
Cremation services were provided and burial in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Plymouth will take place at a later date. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Heifer International. The family wishes to thank the staffs of Rennes Health Center and Heartland Hospice for Nancy’s care.
