Milyn G. Westphal, age 90, of Appleton passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center – Appleton on Sunday, September 1, 2024. He was born on June 13, 1934 in Marion, Wisconsin son of the late William “Herman” and Linda (Schmidt) Westphal. Milyn was a 1953 graduate of New London High School. After high school, Milyn attended technical college to learn TV repair. He worked for Hintz Electronics and Fox Valley Radio & TV as a repairman. On August 29, 1970 he married Judith A. Klitzke. Their marriage was blessed with two children, and the couple just recently celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary. In 1983 Milyn took a job in the color room at Appleton Papers and worked there until his retirement. Milyn was a very active person. He ran competitively all over, including 18 races in Hawaii. He spent many hours at the YMCA in Appleton and Greenville staying in shape. Milyn also enjoyed fishing, bicycling, and downhill skiing. He enjoyed fixing things and even built his own house. His family will miss him dearly.
He is survived by his wife, Judy; children: Curt (Lorna) Westphal, Acworth, GA; Dawn Neumann, Neenah; grandchildren: Alex Neumann, Nathanial Westphal, Brett Westphal; two sisters: Carolyn Rhoden and Carol Rogers; siblings-in-law: Carol Brueggemann, Larry (Judy) Klitzke, Ed Klitzke; many nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings: Arlyn, Eleanor, Betty, Donald, David, and William. He was also preceded in death by his brother-in-law: Richard Brueggemann and sister-in-law: Ruth Klitzke.
The Christian Funeral Service for Milyn will be held on Friday, September 13, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church (N3505 Hwy. 47, Mackville, WI) with Revs. Mark Gartner and Matthew Schoell officiating. Friends will be received at the church on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
The family would like to thank the nurses in the ICU at ThedaCare Appleton, especially Tara, and ThedaCare-at-Home Hospice, Amanda, for all the care and compassion given to Milyn and his family.
