Martha L. Vick, age 78, formerly of Black Creek, WI, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 31, 2023, at Country Villa Assisted Living in Freedom, WI.
Martha was born August 5, 1945, in Orange CA to parents Harold “Ken” and Dorothy (Chamberlin) Pingleton. As a child she enjoyed camping trips to the Sierra Nevada Mountains and Death Valley. She also loved her many pets, including dogs, cats, and chickens.
She graduated from Palmdale HS in 1964 and went on to complete nursing school, graduating in 1967. Martha met David Vick (died 12-22-21) at a USO dance at Edwards AFB and they fell in love. They were married on July 1st, 1967, in Palmdale, CA. They had two girls, Bonnie and Rebecca.
In 1972, Martha and David relocated to David’s hometown of Appleton to raise their family and start a business (David's Bar, Appleton). In addition to being an awesome mom and assisting with the business, as a registered nurse, Martha helped deliver babies at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Appleton, which she continued to do for over 40 years. She also completed her Bachelor of Science at UW-Oshkosh.
After Martha retired from nursing, she had more time to enjoy her numerous interests and hobbies. She loved reading, was an amateur photographer, a knitter, a gardener, an avid Brewers fan, a volunteer at the local Black Creek library, and best of all she was a top-notch home cook. Martha's mac and cheese is still legendary.
Martha is survived by two daughters Becky Vick and Bonnie (Eric) Larson and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Details will be provided on this website when determined.
The family would like to add a special thank you to Country Villa and Moments Hospice staff for their excellent care and compassion.
