On the morning of Friday, April 1, Mark Rosenthal of Gresham, WI peacefully left this life after a courageous battle with cancer. Mark was born on August 23, 1965 in Madison to parents Marilyn Rosenthal (neé Schmidt) and Donald Rosenthal.

Mark spent most of his childhood in Appleton, WI and often referred to the memories of growing up in his kid-filled neighborhood near Erb Park as the happiest of times. After graduating from Appleton West High School in 1983, Mark went on to attend Lawrence University where he received a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy. While his career ultimately took a different path, Mark had scored exceptionally well on the Law School Admission Test (LSAT), a complete non-surprise to anyone familiar with Mark’s brain. Mark had a lifelong love for knowledge and learning. Talking to Mark, you could always count on learning something new and interesting. Some of Mark’s most treasured memories were competing in Lawrence University’s Annual Midwest Trivia Contests with his best friend and fellow Armadillo Association teammate, John Quigley.

Mark’s sense of humor was cherished (or tolerated) by all who had the chance to know him. He was known for his goofiness and quick wit. Under the darkest and most trying circumstances, Mark was there to bring levity and laughter when it was needed most — even on his deathbed.

Mark was loved by so many. He is survived by his mother, Marilyn Rosenthal, Gresham; sister, Jill Rosenthal (Robert Askins), Oshkosh; niece, Courtney Beyer of Chicago, and nephew,  Zachary Beyer of Milwaukee. Mark was preceded in death by his father, Donald.

Public memorial services for Mark are currently pending.
