Marjorie L. Swain, Appleton, age 84, died peacefully Saturday, April 10, 2021, at Touchmark Retirement Community with her loving husband by her side. She was born on January 12, 1937 in Milwaukee, WI, daughter of Charles N. Laupp and Dorothy Baker. Marge graduated from Shorewood, Wisconsin High School in 1955. She attended Lawrence University and was a graduate of Prospect Hall of Milwaukee.
Marge worked for many years as an event planner and researcher at Lawrence. After retiring from Lawrence, she worked for several years at the Appleton office of the Girl Scouts of America.
During their 64-year marriage, Marge and Bob lived at Bob’s US Air Force assignments at Plattsburgh AFB, New York, Tempelhof Central Airport, Berlin, Germany and Vandenberg AFB, California. They lived in Appleton for 49 years. During her years in Appleton, Marge was the loving house mother for three delightful Yorkshire terriers, Brutus, BJ and Lizzie.
Marge and Bob enjoyed paddling their home-built kayak on local rivers and lakes. They also traveled in their BMW roadster as far west as Yellowstone National Park and south to the mountains of Northern Georgia and South Carolina. Marge also enjoyed picnics along the Fox River and at Lake Winnebago.
Marge is survived by her husband, Bob, her daughter and son-in-law, Barri Swain Wautlet and Robert Wautlet, of Yardley, Pennsylvania, and her son, Michael Scott Swain of Berthoud, Colorado, one grandson, Zachary Wautlet, and two great grandsons.
In lieu of a memorial service, the family requests donations in Marge’s memory to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals or Save the Children.
