Marie C. Krumrey

On Thursday, June 11th, 2026, Marie Cecelia Krumrey, 73, passed away peacefully after a long illness. She spent her last several months in Appleton, WI to be close to her daughter and family.

Marie was born on December 19, 1952 in Manistique, Michigan to William and Ramona (Gordon) Hentschell. She spent most of her life in Manistique, graduating from Manistique High School in 1971 and then attending Central Michigan University. Before she finished her degree, she decided to return to the UP where she married the late Dietmar Krumrey. They started a family and during those years as a young mother Marie worked as a secretary in the healthcare industry and then moved into the banking world as a loan officer secretary. When her children were in school, she pursued a nursing degree at Bay de Noc Community College while working full time. She first earned her LPN and continued on, taking evening and weekend classes to become an RN. Later, Marie decided to go back to school yet again and earn her medical transcription certificate. She worked in that field until she retired in 2019.

Marie loved spending time with friends and family. She was a loving and supportive mother, sister, grandmother and friend. She adored her four grandchildren and always had the biggest smile when she spent time with them. Her strength and determination helped her overcome many challenges. She had a penchant for playing cribbage, Rummicube and 31- always for “a quarter a game!” She enjoyed gardening, listening to music, knitting and reading. Perhaps her favorite place to be was on the porch of the family cottage on Thunder Lake. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved watching her favorite comedians. She enjoyed doing puzzles, watching her birds and being outdoors. 

Marie was welcomed into Heaven by those she loved deeply: her mother Ramona, father William and sister in law Diane Chartier Hentschell. She is survived by her brother William L Hentschell Jr of Manistique, MI, sister Ramona Kay Hentschell of Birmingham, MI, daughter Kassandra (Krumrey) Wells and son in law Jeremy Wells of Appleton, WI, son Dietmar Kirk Krumrey of Bangor, MI and four grandchildren: Klara Krumrey, Juno Krumrey, Alanna Wells and Grayson Wells, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She leaves behind her dear pug, Lily.
