Lyle Malliet Obituary

Lyle J. Malliet, 85, passed away on July 21st, 2024, after a long fight against cancer. His final days were at home, surrounded by family.

Lyle was born November 5th, 1939, in Bear Creek, WI to Reginald and Laura (Konrad) Malliet, the eighth of twelve children. Lyle grew up working on the family farm, as well as other farms in the area.  He worked a variety of jobs before finding his favorite job, over-the-road truck driver. Over the years Lyle drove for Schnieder Trucking, Coonen Transport, Foremost Foods and Badger Mining Corp. When Bob Kirst Trucking bought out the trucking division of Badger Mining, Lyle stayed on to finish his work career until his retirement at the age of 73.

Lyle enjoyed any outdoor activity! He loved camping, boating and especially hunting. Lyle taught many of his children how to waterski and spent endless hours hunting each year with his family and friends. His greatest joy was to hunt with his children and grandchildren. Lyle and his wife Bonnie began camping on a permanent site in 1994, in Wild Rose, WI. They continued to camp each summer for 29 years! Together, they made numerous friendships and family memories at their “home away from home”.

Lyle married Patrica Hillsberg in 1959. During their 9 years of marriage, they had three children. Deb (Mike) O’Brien, Rick Malliet, Doug (Lori) Malliet.

In 1969 Lyle married Bonnie (Bonita) Verhagen and her two children, Lee (Julie) Verhagen, and Lorie (Mark) Gillis. Lyle and Bonnie had two children together, Greg (Stephani) Malliet, and Chris (Cindy) Malliet.

Altogether, they have 15 grandchildren. John (Suzanne) Taylor, Amy Jo (Prince) Ugwuh, Collin (Samantha) Malliet, Riley Malliet, Nicole Saran, Taylor (fiancé Marshall White) Verhagen, Michael Verhagen, Brandon Gillis, Nathan (Emily) Amerson, Carley (fiancé James Amanti) Malliet, Austin Malliet, Hunter Malliet, Spencer Malliet, Ashley Walter, Alexis Morken. Additionally, they have 10 great grandchildren.

Lyle is survived by his wife Bonnie, his seven children, 15 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, siblings, Delbert (Kathy) Malliet, Rose Colon, Millie (James) VerVoort, Verna (Jim) Heise, Walter (Lois) Malliet.
