Louis Jansky Obituary

Louis Joseph Jansky, age 97, passed from this world to his heavenly home on July 17, 2024, after a short illness. Louis was born January 16, 1927, in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, the son of Louis and Lucy Jansky nee Stangle. Louis served in the U.S. Army in WWII as a corporal stationed in the Philippines. In 1948, he married his high school sweetheart, Florence Rank, and they moved to Baraboo, where Louis attended the University of Madison, obtained a bachelor’s degree as a civil engineer, and started a family.

Shortly after that, they moved to Milwaukee, and he went to work for Wisconsin Electric. He and his wife raised six children, five boys and a girl. Louis was a family man, taking family trips, enjoying summers on the lake at their cottage, and sharing his knowledge and skills.

He was employed with Wisconsin Electric for 36 years until his retirement in 1987. He was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus. Once retired, he tried his hand at being a gentleman farmer, going back to his roots near Manitowoc in Tisch Mills, Wisconsin. Yet, still being very passionate about helping his children, he spent a good deal of his retirement years rotating to each of his children’s homes as the traveling handy-man.  He was always ready to help them with whatever home project they were involved in and often arrived with a hammer in hand.  He and Florence enjoyed many years wintering in Florida. They both enjoyed playing shuffleboard and hosting visits from their children.

When Florence was afflicted with Alzheimer's, Louis patiently cared for her, taking over the day-to-day responsibilities that had long been her role. After her passing, he lived independently for the last number of years.

Louis is survived by his children, Louis S. Jansky of California, Mary (David) Leitermann of Appleton, Robert (Susan) Jansky of New London, John (Shelley) Jansky of Stevens Point, Tom (Brenda) Jansky of Blair, and Joe (Andrea) Jansky of West Allis; 16 grandchildren, Michael, Peter, Kathryn, Sarah, Nicole, Clayton, Jessica, Mark, Mercer, Jeremiah, Benjamin, Daniel, Abigail, Matthew, Joshua, and Tiffinie, and by 26 great-grandchildren. He is further survived by a brother-in-law, Frances Rank, and a sister-in-law, Darlene Rank, many nieces and nephews. Louis was preceded in death by his wife, Florence, by his parents, two grandchildren, Anna and Adam, and his siblings, Archie and Chester.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at St. Pius X Catholic Parish, 500 W. Marquette Street, Appleton, with Fr. Juan-Carlos Altamirano officiating.
