Lorenz H. Starfeldt Jr.

Lorenz Herman Starfeldt, Jr., 84, Appleton, WI passed away peacefully with his family by his side after a three month decline from a brain bleed.  He was born June 14, 1941, in Appleton, the son of Lorenz Sr. and Edith (Reinke) Starfeldt.  After becoming involved with the Civil Air Patrol in high school, Lorenz grew more interested in the Air Force, and so after graduation, he enlisted.  Lorenz spent four years servicing B-52 boomers, serving during the Cuban Missile Crisis.  After being discharged, Lorenz met his one true love, Bonnie Voight.  They got engaged on their third date and were married that summer on June 20, 1964. What a blessing to celebrate 61 years together!

Lorenz was employed by Wisconsin Bell for many years until his retirement in 1999, when he became involved with consulting as a way to keep busy.  His hobbies included reading, walking/hiking, and kayaking. He also spent many days taking his family camping. Lorenz was a longtime member of Faith Lutheran Church in Appleton and recently became a member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Greenville, WI where his son is a pastor.

Lorenz is survived by his wife, Bonnie; sons: Dean (Gabriela) Suárez-Starfeldt, Ross (Nancy) Starfeldt, and Chad (Schawn) Starfeldt; grandchildren: Zaria (Cuyler) Dewar, Benjamin (Amber) Starfeldt, Eleanor Starfeldt, Jonathan Starfeldt, Sarai (Joshua) Schelfhout, Caleb (Natalya) Starfeldt, and Eden (Bennett) Oetken; a great grandson, James Schelfhout; sisters-in-law: Diane Starfeldt, Barbara Marcks, Debra (Mark) Brandt, and Kathy Voight (Selle); nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and Bonnie's parents; a granddaughter, Koa Voight Suárez; sisters: Jean (Richard) Moore and Beverly (Jim) Salzman; a brother, Daryl Starfeldt; sisters-in-law: Judith (Mike) Haase and Shirley (Russel) Penner; brothers-in-law: George Voight and Dean Marcks.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, N1615 Meadowview Drive, Greenville. Reverends Steve Kline and Chad Starfeldt will officiate.  Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.  Memorial contributions should be directed to Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church or the Koa Fund (www.koafund.org/donate or mail a check to Koa Fund, 402 E Michigan Ave, Kalamazoo, MI 49007).
