Lawrence "Larry" Flanders Obituary

Lawrence “Larry” Flanders passed away on January 25, 2024, four days after his 92nd birthday.

Larry was born in Bussey, Iowa to the late Irven and Ruth (Williams) Flanders. After graduating from high school, he was a truck driver for a short time before he moved to the Fox Cities and worked at Banta Publishing Company. In the mid-1970s, Larry began work at Neenah Foundry Company where he remained until his retirement.

Upon moving to Menasha, Larry met his wife Betty (Greinert). They were married for almost 64 years and had two children Allen (Lori) Flanders, and Amy Flanders. Larry was an involved and loving father. He attended his children’s games, meets, concerts, and events, and took great pride in their many accomplishments.

Larry also enjoyed the great outdoors. For many years, he was an avid hunter and fisherman. His Canadian fishing trips often seemed to end with heavy fog requiring just one more day on the water. Larry and his family also camped during the summer months. They explored sites throughout the Midwest and, as the children got older, expanded their adventures to include Florida and Washington DC.

After hearing about Allen and Amy’s high school trips to Germany, Larry and Betty were inspired to travel. They visited Europe, Asia, the South Pacific, and beyond. Larry was a history buff, so their trips always included visits to historical sites he’d read about.

He was an active member of First United Methodist Church Neenah-Menasha for over 60 years including involvement in various activities and committees. After retirement, Larry was a devoted community volunteer, receiving multiple yearly recognitions for 1,000+ hours of service.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his in-laws Walter and Lillian (Schaetzel) Greinert, sister Evaleen Hoeller, brothers-in-law Bob Greinert, Jack Hoeller, and Francis Vander Velden, sister-in-law Mary Jane Vander Velden, and close family friend Jerry Hoffman.

He is survived by his wife, son, daughter, daughter-in-law, and granddaughters.

Larry’s funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at First United Methodist Church Neenah-Menasha, 108 W. Doty St., Neenah with Rev. Tony Fuller officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
