LaVerne Steinberg Obituary

LaVerne Leonard Steinberg, age 85, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 14, 2021. LaVerne was born on May 19, 1936 in Hortonville, son of the late Leonard and Meta (Maldewin) Steinberg. He carried on the family legacy and made farming his lifelong passion on the family farm in Hortonia, WI until his retirement. He was a member of the Hortonia fire department for several years before retiring. Following his retirement from farming he continued to enjoy the land driving his gator around and loved watching his grandsons enjoy the farming life. On April 6, 1968, LaVerne married Barbara Vande Burgt. Together they were blessed with two children, two grandsons and one great-grandson. In his free time, he enjoyed everything farming, the sporadic gambling trips, playing cards, the occasional beer and listening to polka music.

He will be sadly missed by his wife of 53 years, Barb; his daughter, Tammy (Craig) Strebig, Hortonville; grandsons, Hunter (special friend Maggie Elliott) Strebig, Hortonville, Logan (Lea) Strebig, Hortonville; great-grandson, Lincoln Strebig; sister, Dorla Marcks, New London; brother, Dennis (Carol) Steinberg, Hortonville and sister-in-law, Dawn Steinberg, Waupaca. Godchildren, Steven Eiting and Peggy Duenning. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by son, Brian Steinberg; his parents; sisters, Loretta, Dorothy, Joyce (Oscar) Meyers; brothers, Alvin (Ethel) Steinberg, Kenneth Steinberg; and brother-in-law, Richard Marcks.

He was a lifelong member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 752 E. Grandview Rd., Hortonville. The funeral service will take place at the church at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 20, 2021, with Pastor Tristan Paustian officiating. The visitation will be on Monday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in Hortonville.

As we say good bye for now and experience our first Christmas without you we are happy that Brian gets to finally spend Christmas with his Dad.

As special thanks to the Hortonville/Hortonia EMT’s and Gold Cross for their compassion. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in LaVerne's name.
