Jerome "Romey" Mauel Obituary

Jerome “Romey” Mauel, age 89, passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side on Wednesday, August 21, 2024. He was born to the late Anson John Mauel and Magdalen Agnes (Poepke) Mauel on September 22, 1934 in New London, WI.

Romey was a graduate of Clintonville High School class of 1953. After high school, he entered into the US Navy and proudly served his country while stationed in Japan and Hawaii. On June 7, 1958 he married the love of his life, Ginger Wait, at St. Rose Catholic Church in Clintonville. Romey was employed at Miller Electric for 35 years until his retirement. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, and taking trips up north to Land O’ Lakes. One of his favorite hobbies was to go to rummage sales and Goodwill in search of antique treasures. Romey had a passion for wood working and loved tinkering in his workshop where he carved countless gifts for his family members. Above all else, Romey loved the Lord and loved to serve Him as an active member of Calvary Chapel in Appleton. He will be remembered for his kind heart, faith, and of course, his amazing sense of humor.

Romey is survived by his loving wife, Ginger Mauel and children: Cathy (Chuck) Goehler, Michael (Donna) Mauel, Brian (Denise) Mauel, Jon (Nancy) Mauel, Liz Depner, Patrick (Colleen) Mauel, Chris (Chrissy) Mauel, and Becky (Tim) Lenth. He was also blessed with many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Romey is further survived by many siblings, extended family members, and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by several siblings and his son-in-law, Brian Depner.

A Memorial Service for Romey will be held on Monday, August 26, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at Calvary Chapel, 2136 E. Newberry St., Appleton. Visitation will begin at the church at 10:00 a.m. and will continue until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hidden Charities in Romey’s memory.

Romey’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Compassus Hospice as well as the nursing staff at St. Elizabeth Hospital for the great care and compassion they provided.
