Janice (Jan) Helein Obituary

Janice (Jan) Lee Helein, 87 of Appleton, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 20, 2021 with her daughter Wendy by her side. She was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister and her favorite role, great-grandmother. Janice was born March 7, 1934 in Appleton, WI. Janice married the love of her life, Richard on May 19, 1962. He preceded her in death on August 28, 2015. Janice worked for many years in medical billing.

Janice loved to travel, especially to Florida with her husband in the winter. The two often enjoyed driving around to look at the changing leaves in the fall. She also loved to read, sit on the deck and especially enjoyed spending time with her seven great grandkids.

Janice is survived by her daughter, Wendy DeWitt; son in law, Jim Derks (fiancé Karen); grandchildren, Joshua (Meghan) DeWitt, Aaron DeWitt, Holly (Elliot) Arft; great grandchildren, Chase and Jackson DeWitt, Alexis, Ariana, Alaina, and Ameila Arft, Rayna DeWitt; sisters, Nancy (Earl) Fenner, Jeanette (Charles) Elquist; brother-in-law, John Stiner; sister-in-law, Dawn Wichmann; sister-in-law, Mary Jean (Alois) VandenBoogard; as well as many friends, nieces and nephews.

Janice is preceded in death by her parents, Gottlieb and Ruth (Cotter) Wichman; husband, Richard Helein; daughter, Kris Derks; sisters, Barbara (John) VanVeghel, Linda (Larry) Madson, Marjorie (Harvey) Buchanan, Katherine Stiner; brother, Allen Wichmann; mother and father-in-law, Theodore and Florence Helein; and brother-in-law, John Helein.

She was a wonderful woman who was always thinking of others. She will be greatly missed.

The family would like to thank Theda Care at Home nurse Karen and Cherry Meadows for the care and compassion that was bestowed upon Jan.

Per Janice’s request, a private family funeral will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Jude or Toys for Tots.
