James "Jim" Shaw Obituary

James “Jim” A. Shaw, age 87, passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at Brewster Village in Appleton. He was born in New London on September 27, 1938 to the late Donald and Ruth (Kriese) Shaw.

Jim was a man who believed in hard work, community, and taking pride in whatever he put his hands to. He graduated from New London High School and went on to attend Fox Valley Technical College, where he studied to become a mechanic, laying the foundation for a lifelong career built on skill, determination, and grit.

Early in his career, Jim co-owned Jim and Joe’s Auto Shop in Appleton, where he earned a reputation for honesty and dependability. In 1972, ready for a new chapter, he sold the business and transitioned into agricultural equipment, becoming manager and later owner of Ed Calmes and Sons Implement Company. There, he continued to lead with the same work ethic and integrity that defined his life. Jim also worked part time nights at Hahns Bowling Alley for 30 years.

Jim was a past member of the Appleton Area Jaycees, valuing the connections and sense of purpose that came from giving back and staying involved in his community.

Outside of work, Jim found peace in the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, appreciating the quiet moments, early mornings, and time spent in nature. It was in those simple, steady traditions that he felt most at home.

Jim will be remembered for his steady presence, his willingness to roll up his sleeves, and the pride he took in providing for those he loved. Whether working on engines or helping keep essential equipment running, he approached life with quiet determination and a no-nonsense attitude.

Jim is survived by his wife, Sharon (Calmes) Shaw; sons: Scott (Connie) Shaw, Randy (Danielle) Shaw, Michael (Jennifer) Shaw, Terry Shaw; grandchildren: Cody (Miranda) Shaw, Kaelyn Shaw, Stephen Shaw, Cassidy (Alex) Beausoleil, Caleigh (Lane) Hanadel, Jordon (Brenna) James, Ashlee Shaw, Shaylee Shaw, Brady (Paige) Shaw, Brittani Schneidewend; great grandchildren: Townes Beausoleil, Bloom Beausoleil, Jaida James, Mila James, Makenna Shaw, Blake Shaw, Ryker Shaw, Jaxon Brazil, Piper Starzynski, Leona Shaw; brother, David (Sue) Shaw; and sister, Rosemary (Timothy) Kranzusch. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Ruth Shaw; brother: William (Shirley) Shaw; father and mother-in-law, Harold and Ann Calmes; aunts, uncles, and cousins.
