James “Jim” Kasten 65, passed away unexpectedly on April 5, 2026. Jim was born on April 2, 1961, to Lawrence and Josephine (Mischke) Kasten in Appleton. He graduated from Appleton West. He worked in maintenance at St. Edward and St. Pius X Catholic Churches, RR Donnelley, the Appleton Y and, most recently, Jack’s Maintenance Service. Jim enjoyed railroads, model trains and photography. He also enjoyed being in nature, canoeing, traveling, hiking or spending time with his pets.
Jim is survived by his sisters: Patricia “Pat” Kasten and Mary Kasten; aunts: Carol Rowlands and Patricia Kasten; cousins and friends. Jim was preceded in death by his parents.
The funeral Mass for Jim will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 1810 N. McDonald St., Appleton. A visitation and prayer vigil will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14, at Valley Funeral Home, 2211 N. Richmond St., Appleton. Church visitation will begin at 9 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Thomas More. Inurnment will be in Appleton Highland Memorial Park. For online condolences, please visit www.valleyfh.com.
