It is with both heavy hearts and warm smiles that we remember the life of James "Jim" L. Heidke, a man who found joy in the simple things and left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. Jim passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Appleton. He was born on March 12, 1950 in Clintonville to the late Charles and Esther (Heling) Heidke.
Jim had a deep love for the open road, especially when it meant hopping on his beloved Gold Wing motorcycle and taking in the world one mile at a time. When he wasn’t riding, you could count on him cheering on the Green Bay Packers, rarely missing a game and always holding out hope for one more big win.
A natural tinkerer, Jim was happiest with a project in his hands. He had a special knack for building birdhouses; each one crafted with care, often given away as thoughtful gifts to friends and family. One of his most cherished memories was hosting a birdhouse-decorating party for his daughter and her friends, a day filled with laughter, paint, and a whole lot of personality in every little house.
At home, Jim was known for putzing around, always finding something to fix, improve, or fine-tune. His yard was his pride and joy, kept neat and green with dedication… despite an ongoing, and often humorous, battle with the local squirrels who seemed just as determined as he was.
Above all, Jim will be remembered for his kindness, his sense of humor, and the quiet ways he showed love; whether through a handmade gift, a well-kept lawn, or simply being present.
He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Jim is survived by his wife, Judy Heidke; children: Brian (Mindy) Heidke, Megan (Dennis) Krieser; grandchildren: Blake Nelson, Gracie, Maggie and Adeline Heidke, Kaylen and Tyler Krieser; siblings: Pat Boettcher, Tom (Sally) Heidke, John (Sue) Heidke, Susie Heidke, Sandi (Tony) Frassetto; mother-in-law, Geraldine Middleton; sisters-in-law: Barbara (Bob) Stichman, Donna (Mike) Kujawski, Jan (Al) Jenkins, and Kitty Heidke. He was further preceded in death by his brother Ted Heidke; father-in-law, Ray Mech; and brother-in-law, Dave Boettcher.
A celebration of life and memory sharing will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, April 20, 2026 at Valley Funeral Home, N1858 Greenville Drive, Greenville. Visitation will take place on Monday at the funeral home from 12:00 pm until the time of service.
