James Milton Main (Jim), age 78, of Shiocton, went to his heavenly home on May 9, 2022, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. Before this disease, he lived life to the fullest doing what he loved to do and shared his unique humor along the way.
Jim was born February 24, 1944, in a farmhouse in Stephensville, Wisconsin, to Clyde and Gladys Main. His siblings are Gene, Mary Lou Hooyman, Linda Surprise and Sally Piechocki. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Donald, Keith, Lila Strong and Joyce Pluger. He grew up on the family dairy farm in Shiocton where he learned the value of hard work.
He graduated from Shiocton High School and volunteered for the US Army, was a military police officer. He later went to the Fox Valley Technical College to learn sheet metal but spent most of his career working in paper mills. After retirement, he was a greeter at Sam’s Club and loved meeting new people.
He met his wife, Judith, at the Gem Roller Rink in Neenah. He was 24 and they were married within six months on November 9, 1968. He bought a plot of land from his parent’s farm, and they eventually put up a home where he lived his entire life. When they moved in, he told Judie that the next place he will move is across the street to the cemetery, and he was right.
They raised three children: Doug and children Brandon and Mathew and their mother, Angie; Sonya (Mark) and children Stephanie, Morgan, Michelle and Cooper; Steve (Lindsey) and children Brandon, Syd, Rayna, Porter, James, Joshua and Isaac.
In his early years, he enjoyed coon hunts and dog shows. Later, his passion turned into a side business where he traveled to buy and sell furs, including fur hats. Together with Judie, they enjoyed fishing on Legend Lake, raising chickens and asparagus, and most of all spoiling the grandchildren. Jim was known to show up unannounced with treats in hand for the kiddos. He loved watching Western Movies and the Native American culture. The last six years, he was bed ridden and he loved music, reading the Bible and watching birds out the front window. He was very thankful that he was able to be home with Judie until the end.
Throughout his life, his faith grew stronger, and, in the end, he looked forward to meeting his Savior and going to his heavenly home.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church; N3505 State Rd 47, Appleton from 9:30-10:30am with the funeral service to follow at 11am. Burial will take place at Shiocton-Bovina Cemetery.
