James A. Luedtke (Jim), 67, devoted husband, loving father and proud papa passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, November 23, 2024. He was born in Appleton, WI on November 24, 1956 and is preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Luedtke, his mother Dorothy Boriin (and spouse, Andy Boriin), his brother Steven Luedtke, nephew Cullen Osman and his in laws Donald and Beverly Samsa.
In September of 1979, he married the love of his life, Patricia (Patty Samsa) Luedtke. They built their life together on a foundation of love, trust, mutual respect, and a philosophy of family first. They celebrated their forty-fifth wedding anniversary in September. The two were blessed with three loving daughters, Michelle Luedtke, Allison Luedtke, Carolyn (Antonio) Olivo. Three Grandchildren Grayson Luedtke, Emily Luedtke, and Liam Olivo.
Jim loved working with his hands whether it be doing masonry work, working his job as a millwright, and projects around the house or for his grandkids. He enjoyed the outdoors, gardening and manicuring his yard, hunting with his brother and spending summer days with his family on their pontoon boat.
Grandchildren were the highlight of Jim’s most recent years. He loved nothing more than spending time with them searching for toads in the backyard, snakes and bugs at Bubholz Nature Preserve, driving remote control cars through the ramps and pits he set up in the yard, and anything the kids could think up! He really enjoyed attending sporting events and activities, even coaching a few himself. They always knew their time with papa would end with a wintergreen mint, a jolly rancher, or a quick stop for an ice cream cone. He was so very very proud of his grandchildren, and they lived the truth that he was the BEST papa.
Many describe Jim as being such a nice guy. But that expression seems so much an understatement to the selfless way he lived life. One of his greatest qualities was that he made time to help anyone who needed it. It gave him great joy knowing that he could use his time and talents to help someone out with a project or task that would lighten their load. A strong exterior sometimes overshadowed the extremely sensitive side of Jim - one that cared for his brother, aging in-laws and mother with such grace, patience, and kindness.
A gaping hole has been left in the hearts of those who love Jim. A life cut too short by an unexpected passing is difficult to comprehend and still feels unreal, as if he will walk through the door at any moment. Our hearts will heal as we continue to share and relive our fondest memories of such an extraordinary man - husband, dad, papa, brother, and friend.
Jim is survived by his wife Patty (Samsa) Luedtke, daughters Michelle Luedtke, Allison Luedtke, Carolyn (Antonio) Olivo. His three grandchildren, Grayson Luedtke, Emily Luedtke and Liam Olivo. He also leaves behind his brother, Thomas Luedtke and sister, Lynn Osman. He will be missed by extended family including in-laws, several nieces and nephews, and friends.
There really are no words adequate enough to describe the ways in which Jim has touched the lives of so many. He will forever remain a guiding light and presence in our lives as we learn to carry on with his love and memories in our hearts.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at Valley Funeral Home, 2211 N Richmond Street, Appleton. Visitation will take place on Saturday morning at the funeral home from 9:00 am until the time of service.
