James R. Denil, age 88, of Appleton passed away on Monday, March 29, 2021.
James was born October 24, 1932 to Harry and Mary (Mathy) Denil. He married Dorothy Deprey on June 18, 1952. He graduated from Brussels High School in 1949. He received his teaching certificate from Door Kewanee Normal in 1951. He continued his education at UW-Oshkosh and UW-Madison to obtain his Bachelors’ degree in Education. He also obtained his Masters’ in Administration from UW-Superior. James was an educator/principal for 39 years, retiring in 1990 from the Appleton Area School District. James enjoyed gardening, traveling around the world, taking pictures, walking, and spending time outside in nature with his family.
James is survived by his wife of 68 years, Dorothy, his daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl (Warren) Kahler, two granddaughters, Tanya (Chris) Lange and Kim Kahler (fiancée Chris Hietpas). He is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren, Trevor and Spencer Lange and Cody, Tori, and Dylon Zegers. He is further survived by 2 brothers Hubert Denil and Walter (Mildred) Denil and 2 sisters-in-law, Meome Denil and Arlene Deprey and many nieces and nephews.
James is preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter, brothers, Raymond (Beatrice) Denil, Louie Denil, and brother-in-law Donald Deprey and sister-in-law, Della Denil.
Visitation for James will be 9:00am-11:30am on Tuesday, April 6,2021 at St. Pius X Church 500 W. Marquette St. Appleton, WI 54911. A funeral service will begin at 11:30am with a luncheon to follow at Valley Funeral Home. Interment will be at the mausoleum at Highlands Memorial Cemetery in Appleton, WI.
