Florence S. Groeschel, 81, passed away on Monday, September 22, 2025. Florence was born on February 29, 1944 to Gordon Kain Sr. and Viola Lamberies (formerly Kain, nee Calkins). She loved being a leap year baby and celebrated her 20th “birthday” last year. On June 20, 1964, she was united in marriage to Merlin Groeschel. She devoted her life to caring for her home, husband, and children. In her younger years she enjoyed bowling in leagues and camping. Florence enjoyed the companionship of her dogs, often finding a new one to rescue. She loved nature and enjoyed feeding the birds and watching the deer and turkeys that visited her yard. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with family and friends, often playing cards or dining out.
Florence is survived by her husband Merlin, children Stacey (Peter) Muller and Shawn Groeschel, and grandchildren Finley and Elliott Muller. She is survived by her stepmother Edna Baross and many siblings: Liz Knaack, Patty (Bill) Hermes, Carla Hinc, Dale Kain, Barb (Phil) Burmeister, Edie (Mike) Truesdale, Patrick (Peggy) Kain. She is also survived by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; Robert Groeschel, Marcella (Dave) Kluchesky, LeRoy (Sudy) Groeschel, Ken (Mary) Groeschel, Maxine (Len) Grewe, JoAnn (Jerry) Booth, Janet (Jerry) Stephani, Jerry (Debbie) Groeschel, and Tony Groeschel as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Florence was preceded in death by her parents and siblings; Mary Lou Knoke, Gordon Kain Jr., Kay Snider, and Raymond Rose-Kain.
The funeral service for Florence will be held on Wednesday, October 1, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. at the Valley Funeral Home, 2211 N. Richmond St., Appleton.
