Eve Bauschek Obituary

Eve Pulme Bauschek, 78, of Appleton, passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2019.  She was born to the late Silvia and Eduard Pulme on August 21, 1941 in Estonia.  She graduated from Custer High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and received her teaching degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She was married to Barry Bauschek on June 20, 1964.

Many people who knew Eve will remember her as a kind, generous, and intelligent woman.  She was all of those things, of course, but much more as well.  She was a survivor—having come to this country as an immigrant after World War II.   She not only learned to speak English, she became so good at it that she went on to teach both English and German at Appleton West and East where her German students affectionately called her “Frau Bau.”

She was the epitome of a loving wife and mother, getting up early every morning to make a hot breakfast, and then cooking potato pancakes, chicken divan, or good old tacos for dinner with unflagging energy and self-sacrifice.  She was always there to volunteer at the elementary school’s hot dog days, and to listen and reassure her kids after any bad day.  She carted Matthew around to tennis tournaments and Aime to music competitions with no complaint.  The other side of this was the “Mama Tiger,” who was ferocious to anyone who dared harm her family.  Of course, she was the family’s best proofreader, offering suggestions and enjoying seeing others grow and succeed in their own projects.  Barry always referred to her as his “Bride.”  She was able to put up with Barry’s teasing and sense of humor for 55 years, although she would occasionally have to remark “There are some things you just can’t kid about!”

Eve was an author—having returned to work at Fox Valley (then) Technical College, she not only helped many returning students understand the ins and outs of the English language, she co-authored a book to use in their classrooms.    She cherished her friends and co-workers and greatly looked forward to her girl’s lunches long after her retirement.

Eve’s family eventually expanded to include son and daughter in laws, and then grandchildren.  She was especially beloved by her grandchildren for her “What happens at Grandma’s house stays at Grandma’s house attitude.”  Her grandchildren were spoiled with lots of chocolate milk, sweets, a box full of special toys and art supplies, and most of all, her time. She will be dearly missed by us all. .

Eve is survived by her husband Barry, her sister, Reet, her children, Aime and Matthew, and her 5 grandchildren, Cayden, Coen, Emmett, Adelaide, and Eden.
