Elizabeth "Betty" Milhaupt Obituary

Elizabeth A. “Betty” Milhaupt (Roemer), 103, passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2025.

Betty was born on January 30th, 1922 to Norbert and Eva (Cahill) Roemer of Appleton, Wisconsin.  She attended and graduated from Appleton Senior High School.  In 1946 she was united in marriage to Robert Milhaupt following his return from service in Papua New Guinea and Australia. They raised five children together before his passing in 1984.

“Betty Boop” lived an independent and fulfilling life. She could often be found gathering weekly with her Snoop Sisters and TP card group, volunteering for the Christ Child Society, making chicken dumpling soup, feeding the birds (and chasing away chipmunks), reading a “spicy” novel, or planning her next family fishing trip to the cottage.  She was a lifelong member of St. Mary Catholic Church and valued her faith and community. She was creative, determined and unapologetically herself. You’d have been hard-pressed to find a more supportive relative or friend. Her warm smile, infectious laugh, and cleverly placed puns highlighted her bright and charismatic personality which will be treasured and deeply missed. “We are all a bit of Betty, so she lives forever”.

Betty is survived by her children;  Karen Martens, Steve (Kathie) Milhaupt, Nancy (Leon) Milhaupt Saindon, Mike Milhaupt, Mary Jilek and partner John Hesprich, grandchildren;  Carey Plunkett, Tim Martens, Amber (Derrick) Milhaupt-Himes, Jamie (Sam) Sperger, Jodi (Steve) Mecca, Andy Milhaupt, Jeff Milhaupt, Shelly Bauer, Julie Jilek, Aimee (Jeremy) London, Michael (Rachel) Jilek, Jenn (Corey) Thompson, great-grandchildren;  Drew Christensen and fiancé Sam Jordan, Mason Bauer, Madelyn Himes, Joseph (Rafaela) Sperger, Abby Sperger, Willem Plunkett, Owen Martens, Finn Martens, Sawyer Martens, Grayson Martens, Lauren Martens, Rachel Mecca, Matthew Mecca, Eleanor London, Emilia London, Lily Jilek, April Jilek, sister-in-laws;  Joan Milhaupt, Peggy Desteffen, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings;  Noreta (John) Kluwin, Art (Alice) Roemer, John (Lucille) Roemer, Bob (Florence) Roemer, and daughter-in-law, Ann Milhaupt.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the Brewster Village staff and community.  There aren’t enough words to express our appreciation and gratitude for their love and care during her final years.
