Edrice Howard Obituary

Edrice Marguerite Howard, age 87, passed away on January 27, 2026 at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Appleton, WI. She was born in Appleton to the late Howard and Agnes (Smith) Herrmann.

After graduating from the University of Wisconsin at Madison, Edrice began what would turn into a lifetime of exploring the world. She moved to New York City, where she worked in advertising and publishing, but spent significant time living abroad in England, Greece, Italy, France, Turkey, and on an Israeli kibbutz.

After the birth of her daughter, Edrice settled down in New York City, where she worked as an advertising copywriter, in legal publishing, and in educational publishing. She enjoyed the city’s cultural offerings and regularly attended theater productions, operas, museums, and in summer, concerts in Central Park.

Edrice was a lifelong lover of cats, opening her home to foster countless rescues over the years. She was an avid reader, with a particular fondness for the works of  Agatha Christie, Dick Francis, and Jane Austen. She enjoyed word games, especially Scrabble, and jigsaw puzzles.

On her retirement, Edrice returned to her childhood home of Appleton, where she continued an active life of word games with friends and family, yoga, and a book club. She continued to travel when possible.

Edrice is survived by her daughter, Jessica (Adrian Hall) Stern; granddaughter, Emma Boks; sister, Romelle Herrmann; nephews: Russell (Linda) Remter, James (Dawn) Lornson; niece, Debra Olmsted; and beloved cat, Emmy. She was further preceded in death by her sisters: Carol Remter, Jill Amy Herman; and nephew-in-law, Reuben Olmsted.
