Donna Sue Card, age 90, of Appleton, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2024. Born in Wyandotte, Michigan, on June 23, 1934, Donna Sue was the cherished daughter of Charles Carter and Edith Mae Carter (Harrison). She grew up in Wyandotte graduating from Wyandotte Roosevelt High School in 1952. She attended Olivet College where she met and fell in love with Donald Card. They married on May 21, 1954, and settled in Waterford, Michigan where they built a life together and she taught elementary school for nine years in Clarkston. Don and Donna Sue were married for over 70 years.
Donna Sue was deeply passionate about history and devoted much of her time to the Historical Society and the library on Bois Blanc Island. She and Don spent their retirement summers surrounded by friends, enjoying the island’s rich history and natural beauty.
She is survived by her loving husband, Donald Leroy Card; her sons Gregory (Patricia) and Lance (Kristen) and her daughter Ondrea McAulay (Robert). Donna Sue was a proud grandmother to Rachel Collins (Paul), Justin Card (Rey), Nathaniel Card (Mari), Nicole Brockman (Dylan) , Brendan McAulay (Olivia), and Shauna McAulay . She was also blessed with several great-grandchildren, including Jackson and Braxton Collins, Cameron Card, Elizabeth,and Natalie Card.
Donna Sue was preceded in death by her brother Charles Carter Jr. and her son Cameron Card. Her dedication to her family and passion for history will be fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
A memorial service to celebrate Donna Sue’s life will be held in the future on Bois Blanc Island. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to your local food pantry or library in Donna Sue’s memory.
