Donald D. Day

Donald D. Day, age 90, passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2024, in Appleton, WI. He was born on November 22, 1933, in Erie, PA to the late Ignatius and Clara (Konkol) Dobrzynski. Donald was united in marriage to Anne Grucza on October 22, 1955, in Erie, PA.

Don pursued a career in public health, dedicating himself to ensuring the well-being of communities through his work as a sanitarian. His commitment to health and safety touched countless lives, earning him respect and admiration throughout his career.

Beyond his professional achievements, Don was an active and proud father of five children, four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. His presence in their lives was marked by his unwavering support, humor, and wisdom. Don was known for his vibrant spirit and his passion for his family. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially High Cliff State Park for early morning breakfast on the grill, playing games, and sharing stories with family and friends. His sense of humor made him stand out in every gathering.

In his retirement years, Don continued to be active in his family's life, attending gatherings, celebrations, and always volunteering a helping hand wherever needed. His legacy of love, strength, and big-heartedness will forever resonate with those who knew him.

Donald is survived by his children: Roberta (Nate) Selle, Diane (Mike) Luttmann, John (Jeanne Laux), Kathleen Hyman and Darcy Pierson; grandchildren, Melissa (Kyle) Petersen, Amanda Hyman, Andrew Pierson and Lauren Pierson and great grandchildren, Vincent and Cora Petersen. He was further preceded in death by his wife, Anne Day, son-in-law, Warren Pierson, and his siblings.

A funeral service will be held at 11:30 am on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 500 W Marquette Street, Appleton. Visitation will take place on Thursday at the church from 9:30 am until the time of service.
