Delphine Kaiser Obituary

The Tritz family singers got their piano player back on January 29, 2024, when Delphine Therese (Tritz) Kaiser, 98, passed away at Primrose Memory Care in Appleton.  Del was born to Benedict and Susan (Thielen) Tritz on October 16, 1925, on the family farm in Pittsville, WI, the fifth of 15 children.  She attended a one room schoolhouse and St. Joachim’s Catholic School.  Needed at home, her education was interrupted until she obtained her GED at the age of 53.

Before marriage, Del worked at various jobs: canning factory, paper mill, housekeeper, telephone operator and, her favorite, the Marshfield News-Herald.  She worked, travelled, and had adventures with her friends.  Later in life, she was a part-time teller at the St Pius X Credit Union and a volunteer in the library at Appleton Medical Center.

Del married Edward Kaiser on May 30, 1959, in Pittsville, WI, and they were married for 59 years until Ed’s passing in 2019.  They lived the entirety of their married life in Appleton and were blessed with five children and, later, their spouses - and six grandchildren who kept her young at heart.  After her own children were old enough, she and Ed were foster parents to 18 babies.

Del was a faith-filled Catholic and long-time member of St Pius X Church. She was also a lifelong learner and spiritual seeker; with her, it was always okay to have doubts and ask questions.  Her open-mindedness, non-judgment, and acceptance of others serves as an example to her children.  She served the church in many capacities: teaching Sunday school, training altar servers, in the women’s society, as a Eucharistic minister and lector.  Most notably, she sang in both the St Pius adult choir and funeral choir from their inceptions.  She attended her final choir rehearsals when she was 94 years old.  Music is in the genes of the Tritz family and has been passed on through Del to her children and grandchildren.

As a child of the Depression, Del was one of the original reduce/reuse/recyclers. Clothing was repaired or reconfigured until it was only fit for the rag box; plastic bags, foil, and wax paper were washed and reused; food wasn’t thrown away until it talked back to you.

Del was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ed; infant sisters Magdelene and Gertrude; siblings Marita (Joe) Krause, Norm (Loretta) Tritz, Cy (Marian) Tritz, Marv (Kathy) Tritz, Ben (Carol) Tritz, Sr Mary Hope (Corrine) Tritz, Ken Tritz; siblings-in-law Virginia Tritz, Ruth Tritz, Jerry Wirtz, and Judy Tritz and many of Ed’s brothers and sisters.

She is survived by children Mary (Craig) Clemons, Kathy (Tim) Budelier, Steve Kaiser, Gerry (Cathy) Kaiser and their sons Joe and Nick, and Peggy (Brian) Schwartz and their children Leah, Anna, Carrie and Isaac. She is further survived by siblings Don Tritz, Hal Tritz, Ralph (Carrie) Tritz, Sue Wirtz, Lee Tritz; sister-in-law Sandy Tritz, and members of the Kaiser family, as well as many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 am on Tuesday, February 6, at St. Pius X Church, 500 W Marquette St, Appleton. Visitation will be held at the church from 9 am until the time of service. Burial in St. Joseph Cemetery will follow the luncheon.
