Dellas Joseph Vandenberg

Dellas J. Vandenberg, age 89, of Appleton passed away surrounded by his family December 15, 2020 at his home after a short battle with cancer.

He was born April 16, 1931 in Appleton to the late Joseph and Laura (Stark) Vandenberg.  He graduated from Appleton High School Class of 1949 and then proudly served as a Corporal for 2 years in the US Army during the Korean War.  He was united in marriage 66 years ago to Beverly Hoier on August 4, 1954.

Dellas enjoyed his 43 years that he worked as a District Circulation Manager for The Appleton Post Crescent.  After retiring in 1992, he and Beverly wintered in Texas for the next 22 years, making many new friends.  Dellas was very proud of his wonderful wood carvings and of the many large model ships that he built over the years. He also enjoyed all of their worldly travels to Europe, Hawaii, Alaska, Australia, and New Zeeland not to mention all across the United States and Canada.  In June 2014, Dellas proudly participated in Honor Flight.  Above all, Dellas enjoyed conversation with anyone and everyone and spending time with his dog(s), Buddy.

Dellas is survived by his wife and his 8 children:  Bonnie (Rick) Rath, Jeff, Brian (Karen), Mark (Jane), Steve, Lori (Steve) Femal, Julie Lenzner, and Joe; he is further survived by 20 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother-in-law, Marian (James) VanStralen, and a younger brother, Jimmie, a grandson, David, and a great-grandchild, Ameliya.

The family would like to extend our sincere thanks to ThedaCare Hospice which made it possible for Dad to stay at home until the end.  You were truly a blessing.

Please join the family in celebrating Dellas’ life on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at St Pius X Church, 500 W. Marquette St. Appleton, @ 11:30am with full military honors following.  Visitation at the church will begin at 10:00am until time of the service.  Social distancing and masks will be required for safety of all.
