David Otto Brown, 71 peacefully passed away at home surrounded by his family on January 11, 2023. He was born to William and Audrey Brown on July 26, 1951, in Appleton WI where he was raised and attended the public school system graduating from Appleton East with the class of 1969. He married Mary Franz on September 26, 1970 and raised two children - Christy and Joe. Dave retired from Appleton Papers after 43 years of employment. He was heavily involved with the union serving in many leadership roles, including President. He had many hobbies including hunting, fishing, spending time with his family and friends up north on Pickerel Lake. He also enjoyed playing golf and watching sports.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Brown; his two children: Christy Brown, Appleton and Joseph (Rachel) Brown, Hobart, five grandchildren; Kayla, Michael, Kelly, Olivia and Benjamin as well as three great-grandchildren Ava, Elijah and Luna. He is further survived by his brother Bruce (Debbie) Brown, his sister-in-law Jeanne Brown, his extended in-laws of the Franz family, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather Otto Kasten, mother Audrey Brown, father William Brown and brother Jeffrey Brown. Dave was a loving husband and father, with a huge heart; he will be missed by all who came to know him. He had an amazing way of making the people in his life feel special-always there with a giant hug.
Family and friends may gather for a visitation on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at Valley Funeral Home, 2211 N. Richmond St., Appleton beginning at 4:00pm until 7:00pm. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at St. Pius X Catholic Parish, 500 W Marquette St., Appleton from 10:00am until the Memorial Mass held at 11:30am. Inurnment will take place at 2:30pm at Riverside Cemetery, Appleton.
