Darlene Rae Sturms

Darlene Rae (Greil) Sturms, age 84, of Appleton, WI, passed away peacefully at St. Elizabeth hospital on the morning of Wednesday, October 23, 2024. She was born in Tomahawk, Wisconsin on December 7, 1939, to the late William Greil and Emma (Miller) Jolitz.

Darlene and her family eventually moved to Appleton, Wisconsin where she lived for the remainder of her life. Throughout the years, Darlene worked as a housekeeper and cook and you would often find her busy outside with yard work, gardening, and tending to her flowers. She especially enjoyed taking trips to the casino to try to win big on the slots, sharing a cup of coffee and shooting the breeze with family and friends, especially her best friend, Lyn Ertl, or relaxing with her pets in her favorite recliner watching Judge Judy.

Darlene is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Remmel (Michael); grandchildren, Marissa Schrader (Kirk) and Kimberly Davidson (Kurt); great-grandchildren Lucy Davidson and Jack Davidson; sister, Bernice (Greil) Nordwig; brothers Darrell Greil and William Greil (Wendie); sisters-in-law Karen Greil and Betty Greil; brother-in-law Richard Servi, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Preceding her in death are her father and mother, William Greil and Emma (Miller) Jolitz; brothers James Greil and Fred Greil; sisters Barbara (Greil) Servi and Carol Jean Greil; sister-in-law Arlene Greil; and brother-in-law Ralph Nordwig.

A special thank you to the staff at St. Elizabeth hospital in Appleton, Wisconsin and Compassus Hospice who cared for Darlene at her end and the staff at Care Partners Assisted Living while she resided there.

As per Darlene’s wishes, there will be no services or gathering and her ashes will be placed with her family in the near future.
